Venus Williams admitted that Serena Williams’ retirement from tennis was “unimaginable” at first as she is now hoping her sister will at least still be her hitting partner. Serena, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, retired from tennis after the US Open.
Venus, 42, is still active as she has indicated that she is planning to continue her career. Through her clothing brand EleVen by Venus, the seven-time Grand Slam champion answered some of the questions received from fans.
“Unimaginable at first. But I have had time to prepare myself. I’m sure she will still hit with me,” Venus wrote.
Venus Williams appears to be done with doubles
For the first time since 2018, the Williams sisters played doubles together.
Unfortunately, they suffered a US Open first round defeat to Lucie Hradecka and Linda Noskova. With Serena retired, Venus appears to be done with doubles. “I think I’m retired from doubles now,” Venus said.
Venus was out for 12 months before returning to singles action in Washington. Williams appeared in four tournaments during the North American hard court swing, and went 0-4. Venus has indicated that she no immediate plans for this season, but we could see in her action in 2023.
“No plans for this year. But watch out for next year. Work on my game. Spend time with the family. Time with my teams. And time at home. It’s been a while,” she wrote.
