The fact that Tyson Fury is fighting Derek Chisora in a trilogy has disappointed most boxing fans, but not Matthew Macklin.
At one point, it seemed as if we might get the fight that everyone has been waiting for between Fury and Anthony Joshua before the end of the year.Fury and Joshua seemed on a collision course, but the fight has now fallen throughBut this is boxing, so inevitably those negotiations collapsed.
Instead, it seems the Gypsy King will come up against heavyweight veteran Chisora on December 3 in a trilogy bout. The pair have met twice previously with Fury winning by unanimous decision in their first fight in 2011 and then he followed up with a stoppage victory in the rematch three years later.
This is not a fight that many boxing fans had been calling for, with talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan even telling promoter, Frank Warren, “Nobody wants to see Tyson Fury fight Derek Chisora.”It appears, however, that is not true, as former world title contender, Macklin, believes you are always in for an entertaining night when Chisora is in the ring.Macklin has stated that Del Boy will give it all he has in the ring with the 38-year-old never one to shy away from a dust-up.
He told Boxing Social: “You know with Derek Chisora, he’s always going to bring the heat.
“He’s going to give it everything he’s got, he’s going to leave it all in the ring.
“Derek Chisora could fight anyone and I’d watch the fight and the same with Fury.
“So, I think it’s better that Fury stays active than not fight.
Macklin believes that it doesn’t matter who Fury or Chisora fight, they’ll always provide value
“Would we rather it be AJ, Usyk? Of course we would.
“But, if that’s an impossibility, then I still think he’s doing the right thing by fighting.”
