After she lost her match against Barbora Krejčíková at the US Open early Monday morning, Garbiñe Muguruza called out her opponent over the timing of the medical timeout that she asked to take late in the second set.
Muguruza lost the match that ended after 1 a.m. ET Monday morning, 6-3, 7-6 (4). When both players went to the net to shake hands as is customary, an irritated Muguruza said Krejčíková’s actions were “so unprofessional.”

Krejčíková had called for a medical timeout to be taken so that trainers could look at a diaphragm issue right after Muguruza fought back from a 4-0 deficit to take a 6-5 lead in the second set of the match.
Krejčíková won the next seven points after play resumed.
“Listen, I don’t really want to talk about this,” Muguruza said after the match. “I’ll let you guys judge what you think about this.”

Krejčíková also appeared to bother Muguruza by taking her time after points had been completed.
“Well, I think, between players, you know a little bit how to behave in certain moments and, yeah, I wasn’t very happy at the end of the match,” Muguruza said. “That’s pretty much it.”
Once the match ended, Krejčíková sat at her chair on the sideline and did not do the customary on-court interview after the match. She also didn’t participate in a post-match press conference.
