Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas both suffered a blunder with their respective ball kid mascots ahead of their match at the ATP Finals. The Serb accidentally went to walk on with the 24-year-old’s mascot before Tsitsipas forgot his ball kid entirely, leaving the boy having to run after him to catch up.
Djokovic and Tsitsipas are facing off for the second time in nine days as they meet in the round-robin stage of the ATP Finals. The second and seventh seeds are two of just three former champions at the season-ending tournament, with 2020 winner Daniil Medvedev also in their group of death along with Andrey Rublev.
Tsitsipas has extra motivation going into the match after losing a tight three-set battle with the Serb just over a week ago in the semi-finals of the Paris Masters, where he took a mini-break lead in the final set tiebreak before dropping four straight points to lose the match. And it seems the Greek star was so focused ahead of Monday’s clash that he left his mascot behind.
All players have a ball kid accompany them for their walk onto the centre court in Turin but both the five-time ATP Finals champion and the world No 3 made a mistake when stepping out for their opening match, with Djokovic first approaching the wrong mascot who pointed to the other ball boy before the 35-year-old laughed and took the other ball boy’s hand to walk to his bench.
