Tyson Fury has given an insight as to who the only person he believes can defeat him is – and that’s the man in the mirror.
Fury thinks that none of the current crop of heavyweight contenders can topple him, and that the only man he has to worry about beating is himself “Nobody’s taking my heavyweight crown, only myself. The only man who can beat Tyson Fury is Tyson Fury.
All these guys can do what they want; they can get mandatories, they can do whatever. But when you rule the division like the Wizard of Oz like I do, you can do what you want and that’s what I’ll be doing.
All road’s lead to The Gypsy King!”
Fury’s battle with his personal demons has been well documented and his coming back from two and a half years of drug and alcohol abuse to reclaim his heavyweight crown is considered one of the greatest stories in sport.
Fury-Chisora 3 is next for Tyson, with the pair due to lock horns in two weeks at Tottenham Hotspurs’ stadium in London.
The Chisora fight represents a somewhat surprising trilogy for Fury, and ‘The Gypsy King’ came under criticism from some quarters over his choice of Chisora as an opponent.
Fury defeated ‘Del Boy’ in convincing fashion on both occasions when they met in their early careers and, given Chisora’s record since paired with Fury’s ascension to top dog in the heavyweight division, few believe a third meeting will be competitive.
Many fans will hope the Chisora bout will simply serve as a tune up for Fury before a mega fight in 2023 with Oleksandr Usyk in which an undisputed heavyweight champion would emerge.
