Former ATP ace comments on Novak Djokovic’s season
Nick Kyrgios suffered an early loss at the Diriyah Tennis Cup in Saudi Arabia, falling to Cameron Norrie in straight tie-break sets. Nick spoke about Novak Djokovic during his press conference, calling the Serb the best player in the world and welcoming him back to Australia.
Kyrgios and Djokovic were far from friends in the past, with the Australian constantly attacking the Serb. That changed in January of this year, when Nick publicly defended Novak during his 10-day visa saga. Half a year later, Djokovic and Kyrgios met in the Wimbledon final and battled it out for a Major trophy.
The Australian gave his best to defeat the strongest possible opponent. However, the Serbian made his experience count and prevailed 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 in three hours to secure his 21st Major title. Djokovic went all out after the opening set and defended five of his six break chances to keep the pressure on the other side.
He broke Nick for the first time in his career in the second set and kept everything under control in the third to increase the lead. In the fourth set there was no chance for a break, and the defending champions clinched the tie-break victory to seal victory and lift the seventh Wimbledon trophy.

Djokovic and Kyrgios could meet again at the next Australian Open, as the Serb has been given the green light to compete in the first Major of the season. “Novak is healthy and ready to play and put on a show for our fans and for our country, we are lucky to have him.
Novak is the best player in the world. I’m glad we welcome him back to come and show what a great tennis player he is. There is no tournament worth its salt without the presence of Novak Djokovic. Novak, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were a three-headed monster that everyone wanted to beat.”

Djokovic will play in Adelaide
Asked by the Russian site Championat about the season that has just ended on the men’s circuit, Nikolay Davydenko said he was once again impressed by Novak Djokovic who was also deprived of two Grand Slam tournaments.
“Let’s start with Djokovic, who couldn’t make it to the Australian Open or the US Open. But he was able to participate in Wimbledon and he won it, all without a single point. I don’t know what to say about him anymore. Maybe if he had played every Grand Slam tournament, he would have won everything and be number one in the world.”
