The 2023 ESPYs will take place on Wednesday night, and the winner of Best Boxer award was unveiled early.

Undisputed light middleweight champion Claressa Shields was honored with the award for the first time in her legendary career, beating out fellow nominees Gervonta “Tank” Davis, Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson.

Shields is now the first female to win Best Boxer at the ESPYs in the award’s 19-year history. She joins heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and pound-for-pound star Canelo Alvarez as recent winners of the award.

Shields (14-0, 2 KOs) is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Maricela Cornejo last month in her only fight so far this year to retain her WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, WBF, and The Ring female middleweight titles. Cornejo was a late replacement for Hanna Gabriels, who was removed from the June 3 fight after testing positive for a banned substance.
