Tyson Fury dismisses Anthony Joshua fight: AJ is ‘out in the cold,’ says the WBC heavyweight world champion
Tyson Fury expects to fight Oleksandr Usyk for all four of the major heavyweight world titles in December; Fury dismisses the hopes of his British rival Anthony Joshua for a fight with him saying that AJ is now “out in the cold”
Tyson Fury has dismissed Anthony Joshua’s hopes of fighting him in a blockbuster all-British heavyweight battle.
Joshua told Sky Sports that he was targeting a future contest with WBC heavyweight champion Fury.
But Fury shrugged off the suggestion, telling Sky Sports that AJ was now “out in the cold. Frozen”.
Joshua also intends to box former champion Deontay Wilder, whom Fury defeated twice to win and retain the WBC title.
Fury though doesn’t see either advancing a case for a fight with him next year.
“They’re both out in the cold and they’re both frozen so it doesn’t really matter,” he said.
Fury is targeting the undisputed heavyweight title fight with Oleksandr Usyk, who holds the WBO, WBA and IBF belts.
He is convinced that bout will happen before the end of this year.
“Usyk’s a sausage,” Fury said. “I’m expecting it to take place in December, that’s what I’ve been told, so I’ve got no reason to disbelieve it for sure.
“Usyk has to fight me in December, doesn’t have a choice. He’s signed a contract so if he doesn’t, he’s breached contract and he gets sued, so doesn’t really have a choice.”
Ngannou vs AJ?
In contrast Francis Ngannou is open to boxing Anthony Joshua.
Fury is taking on mixed martial artist and former UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou on Saturday in a 10-round boxing contest.
Ngannou would fight AJ eventually, he says – after a rematch with Fury.
“I think we’re going to run it back for sure first, then maybe see Anthony Joshua,” he told Sky Sports.
Ngannou would also like to fight at Wembley Stadium in London.
“Possibly, I can’t tell, but I’m very excited by that idea,” he said.
“I was in Wembley stadium when Fury fought Dillian Whyte, the vibe there was quite electric, was quite exciting. I think I’d like to have that dynamic.”
