We got what we wanted – Jake Paul claims viral Mayweather altercation was staged

Back in early March, internet sensation turned pro boxer Jake Paul went viral for non-praiseworthy reasons, as per usual for his brand. In a video uploaded by TMZ, “The Problem Child” in what appeared to be an altercation with Floyd Mayweather and his entourage after a Miami Heat game.

As you’ll see in the clip below, the 26-year-old Paul is seen standing in front of a large group of men, including Mayweather. The man holding the camera can be heard saying, “let’s bust him up, guys.”

Floyd Mayweather & a group of men (anywhere from 15 to 40 or more) confronted Jake Paul outside the Miami Heat game tonight. After exchanging a few words, Jake booked it. The guys have beef going back to when JP snatched FM’s hat at the media event promoting Logan Paul vs. Floyd.

Jake Paul claims Mayweather altercation was staged

Paul recently sat down with sports commentator Wade Plem and revealed that the viral clip was staged.

“We were, like, ‘let’s set this up and make this go viral.’ And (go) viral, it did. Yes, it went on every single news page and outlet. We got exactly what we wanted out of it,” he said.

“We needed people to think it was real.”

The storyline between the two men began in 2021, when Paul snatched Mayweather’s hat during a face-off. His juvenile antics incited a brawl and irked Mayweather so much to send out death threats. He also claimed that Mayweather is a tax evader who did not pay his brother Logan for their exhibition match.

Paul last fought in February against Tommy Fury and lost via decision, a first in his three-year pro career. According to PFL exec Loren Mack, he will “absolutely” make his MMA debut some time in 2023.
