Terence Crawford Could Be Set For Shock Next Move After Message From Promoter

It was revealed this week that unified welterweight champion Terence Crawford is now a promotional free agent, and now the 36-year-old could be set to make a huge move.

Crawford established himself as the pound-for-pound number one fighter on the planet when he knocked out Errol Spence Jr in a generational performance that will live long in the memory.

He hasn’t fought since due to Spence’s activation of their rematch clause, but his former foe has now pulled out of the rematch after undergoing cataract surgery, and the rumour mill as to whom Crawford may now face is well underway.

With promoters around the globe clamouring to either sign Crawford or convince him to fight their man, Golden Boy Promotions’ founder and former six-division world champion Oscar De La Hoya went public in his desire to add the undefeated star to his stable.

In terms of who Crawford may face next, there are two standout options. First, is an unprecedented three weight-class jump up to fight Canelo Alvarez for the undisputed super-middleweight title, with the Mexican yet to confirm who he will face in May and September.

However, the more realistic option appears to be WBO super-welterweight champion Tim Tszyu, who is now recognised as the top dog up at 154lbs.

Before the Aussie can consider such a mammoth opportunity, he must first get past another former unified welterweight champion in Keith Thurman, who he fights on March 30th in Las Vegas.
