The boxing world is well aware of the equation between boxing legend Floyd Mayweather and Gervonta Davis. Mayweather Promotions has been promoting Davis since 2015. However, Davis split apart from the organization in 2022. After they parted ways, Mayweather expressed his admiration for the American boxer and claimed he would always love Tank.

Even though Mayweather was always complimentary of Davis, the latter typically expressed negative things about Mayweather. However, Davis expressed no hate for his former promoter in an interview ahead of his upcoming fight. He even praised Mayweather for his boxing prowess.

Ahead of his fight with Martin, Davis was questioned about his opinion on the best boxers in a Q&A. When asked which boxer he thinks has the best speed, he said Sugar Ray Leonard. While talking about the boxer with the best power, he named three-time world champion in two-weight classes, Julian Jackson, and former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.
