The potential lightweight match-up between Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Shakur Stevenson is one of the most intriguing style clashes in the sport.

Stevenson is the current WBC belt holder at 135lbs and boxes to the old adage of ‘hit and don’t get hit’. At just 27-years-old the American is already a three-weight world champion and is undoubtedly one of the most skilled fighters in the game. However, his defensive first mentality has lead to some fan criticism from his last two performances.

Davis on the other hand never fails to entertain when he steps into the ring. The Baltimore native boasts an incredible 28 knockouts from his 30 victories and, like his rival, is yet to taste defeat.

One man who knows what it’s like to share the ring with both is number 3 ranked WBC lightweight Keyshawn Davis. Speaking to FightHub, Davis is picking Shakur to come out victorious if the two do ever meet.

“I think Shakur will win … I think Shakur got better skills and of course he’s better defensively. I’m always going with the better skill and the better defensive fighter.

Tank’s skill is phenomenal but I just feel like he’s offensive first. I feel like Tank is the type of fighter where he’ll either be offensive first or he’ll be very, very, very patient and just try and catch you slipping. Certain fighters just smart you know.”

The lightweight up-and-comer says the fight will ‘definitely’ end in a split decision.

“I just think Shakur will win that fight, it’ll be a hell of a fight, a hard fight and it’s definitely going to be a split decision, but I’ve got Shakur.”

It’s unclear who Tank will face next, whilst Stevenson will take on former super-featherweight champion Joe Cordina on October 12 in Saudi Arabia.
