Woodley hasn’t competed since he suffered a KO loss in the rematch to Jake Paul in December of 2021. Since then, he has been linked to other fights, and Woodley revealed he was originally supposed to box Mayweather in June. Still, the undefeated boxer decided to face John Gotti III instead.

“I took some time off, and then I had some guys bitch out. I was supposed to fight Floyd in June. It was never supposed to be Gotti. That fight was me originally. I was supposed to fight KSI in January last year. He flaked out and took Dillon Danis,” Woodley said on Overdogs Podcast with Mike Perry. “Shit, I got offered to fight you, Mike. I’m pretty sure you got offered to fight me. I said, I’m not fighting my dog for no f*****g peanuts. If we was gonna fight for real, we would have fought in the UFC. And that’s a hard ass fight, he at the top of the game.”

Tyron Woodley hasn’t competed since 2021

Mayweather boxed Gotti III in June of 2023 and the fight was ruled a No Contest as the fight was stopped due to extensive trash-talking and clinching. They had their rematch in August in a non-scored bout that Mayweather dominated from start to finish.

Had Tyron Woodley boxed Floyd Mayweather it would have been an exhibition but it would have been interesting as he is a big name and does have KO power. But, with Woodley not getting that fight, it’s uncertain when or if he will fight again.

Tyron Woodley is 19-7-1 in MMA and 0-2 in boxing. His only two boxing fights came against Jake Paul, losing by KO and by split decision in the first bout. The former UFC welterweight champion ended his career with four straight losses. In his career, he has notable wins over Darren Till, Demian Maia, Robbie Lawler, Stephen Thompson, and Carlos Condit among others.

Can Gervonta Davis close the distance and land significantly on the defensively elite Shakur Stevenson? That’s the question that one of the best fights in boxing boils down to.

‘Tank’ Davis has stopped 28 out of 30 opponents. At the other end of the scale, Stevenson has a less than 50% knockout ratio but wins bouts comfortably over the distance.

Both men are undefeated and currently hold world titles in the lightweight division. Together, they are two halves of one of the most difficult to call match-ups in the sport.

Stevenson and Gervonta Davis'

Asked by Fight Hub TV to predict how a tournament would turn out with all the best 135 and 140 pounders – Davis, Stevenson, Devin Haney, Subriel Matias, Teofimo Lopez, Ryan Garcia – former trainer to Gennady Golovkin, Abel Sanchez, said Davis beats them all.

“Matias and Gervonta are in the final … Shakur doesn’t have the pop that Davis has. He doesn’t have the pop that Matias has.

I think [Tank is the best of them all.] I think that [Tank] has what I would love to have in all my fighters, he’s got a [Roberto] Duran rage in my opinion. None of these [other] guys have that. Yes, he’s a little short, but when you’ve got that Duran rage, he wants to hurt you … The other guys, they don’t have that rage and I think that’s very important in a fighter.

Gervonta "Tank" Davis and Shakur Stevenson

Unfortunately for fans, the fight is set to marinate longer. Despite both recently coming off title defences in the same period and looking for opponents, talks failed to materialised and Stevenson, now signed with Matchroom, will face former super-featherweight world champion Joe Cordina on October 12.

His team want to get that win before facing William Zepeda and then Davis, who is slated for a November return with an opponent as yet unannounced.

Simone Biles and her husband Jonathan Owens are offering a peek into their “dream home” in Texas, which is currently under construction.

Biles, 27, and Owens, 29, posed together in a sweet mirror selfie shared via the Olympic gymnast’s Instagram Story on Saturday, August 31. In the snap, the pair looked up at a seemingly mirrored ceiling in the new home.

Another photo showed the Chicago Bears safety holding Biles’ hand in front of a large black marble fireplace. “Building our dream home,” Biles captioned the snap. “So lucky to do this thing called life with you.”

Simone Biles

Biles shared progress on the couples’ home build earlier this month via Instagram on August 22. “House meetings all day,” she wrote over a selfie taken during her busy schedule, which included overseeing landscaping, pool plans, audio and security systems and more.

She also shared a glimpse at her new kitchen, which features a sleek black-and-white backsplash and matching countertops. “So excited to make this house a HOME,” she enthused, adding, “A couple more months.”

The gold medalist first started sharing her home construction journey in September 2023. At the time, Biles’s only photo of the house was simply the base wooden framework and concrete foundation.

Simone Biles

Biles is fresh off of a successful 2024 Paris Olympics run, where she won three gold medals and one silver in gymnastics. She finished second place in floor behind Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade, but snagged gold for the individual all-around and vault finals, respectively. She won her third gold medal of the Paris Games as part of Team USA’s artistic gymnastics squad, which also consisted of Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera.

The Paris Olympics brought Biles’ Olympic medal count to 11. Whether or not she plans to add to that tally in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics has yet to be decided.

Oscar De La Hoya told fellow boxing legend Floyd Mayweather to “stop embarrassing yourself with these exhibitions” a little over a week after Mayweather went the distance with John Gotti III.

In a video he posted to Instagram, De La Hoya called the bout a “s–tshow that left the crowd booing,” referencing the referee swap that occurred after Mayweather took clear issue with how the original ref was calling the action.

Mayweather hasn’t fought professionally since beating UFC star Conor McGregor in 2017. The 47-year-old has remained active through exhibitions that are personally lucrative but don’t make for great spectacles. His initial matchup with Gotti was notable largely for a post-fight brawl rather than for anything that transpired before that.

Floyd Mayweather‘

Mayweather certainly isn’t bolstering his legacy with his current career path, but he has little incentive to stop as long as he keeps earning paychecks. And when it comes to how he’s remembered from a historical perspective, what the unbeaten multi-divisional champion achieved in his prime will always take precedence.

If anything, an argument could be made that unofficial exhibitions are a better use of his time than if he had tried to hang on for too long and was soundly beaten by younger challengers, a fate that often befalls great boxers.

It’s doubtful that Mayweather will give much thoughts to De La Hoya’s recent comments and give up what has been a good thing.

Money Mayweather made the money during the Ionescu and Stewart’s WNBA game

Floyd Mayweather is a shrewd businessman, so his net worth is a whopping $1.2bn according to Yahoo Finance. He added an extra $190,000 to that pot by betting on Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu‘s WNBA talents.

The ex-boxer seems to be interested in professional women’s basketball now too as he cashed out for the $190,000 payout during the New York Liberty vs. Seattle Storm‘s clash at the Climate Pledge Arena on Friday, August 30.

The East Coast won the match with a commanding 98-85 victory against the Storm, based in Washington, to bounce back from their shocking defeat to the Los Angeles Sparks just days earlier.

As a result, Mayweather showed off his winnings on Instagram with what looks to be a stake of $100,000 (over twice the USA median income) to return $90,000 as he dubbed the victory, “Light Pick Up.”

Ionescu‘s 25 points, 8 assists, and 8 rebounds, combined with Stewart’s 32 points, five rebounds and six assists gave the Liberty exactly what they needed to claim their latest win of the season to get their conquest back on track.

They continue to lead the WNBA Eastern Conference with 27 wins and a .818 record ahead of the Connecticut Sun (.742), with a three game margin to their north-eastern USA rivals, as the Indiana Fever trail a long way back by 10.5 games.

They’ll next do battle with the on Friday, September 6 against the Seattle Storm once again as they welcome them to the Barclays Center, with the game due to start at 19:00 ET/16:00 PT.

Oscar De La Hoya hits out at Mayweather

Mayweather, despite officially retiring in 2017, has not really stopped from boxing and fighting with his latest venture coming against John Gotti III in Mexico City on August 24 and whilst he won the fight, it was overshadowed by a crazy moment.

The 47-year-old decided to change the referee in the middle of the bout, leaving his old rival Oscar De La Hoya to slam the drama as “embarrassing.”

“Floyd Mayweather fought in another exhibition against Gotti on Saturday,” De La Hoya said on social media. “A real s**t show that left the crowd booing at the end.

Robert Garcia believes Floyd Mayweather could become a world champion again if he returns to professional boxing.

The 47-year-old walked away from the sport after stretching his perfect record to 50-0 by knocking out Conor McGregor seven years ago.

Since then, Mayweather has been cashing in with lucrative exhibition bouts.

‘Money’ has squared off against influencers Logan Paul, Deji and Aaron Chalmers, and also took on several MMA fighters and one of his old sparring partners.

Anthony Joshua on Floyd Mayweather: I pulled off one of his favourite moves against Kubrat Pulev | Boxing News | Sky Sports

Last weekend, the former five-weight world champion showed he’s still got the skills that made him famous as he dominated John Gotti III during their rematch in Mexico.

Mayweather has barely been touched during his fights against novices.

Garica, who trained Anthony Joshua for his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, says Mayweather could win another world title if he returns to the pro ranks.

The 49-year-old insists Terence Crawford and Jarron Ennis are the only welterweight champions who would be too much for Mayweather almost a decade after his last proper fight.

“Whatever you say, whatever anybody wants to think, Mayweather could, because he’s still active, he’s still in shape, he could fight real fight,” Garcia told ES News.

“Not real fighters like Vergil [Ortiz], Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, but Mayweather could still beat a lot of champions. Maybe at welterweight, he could beat most of the champions right now.

“He’ll probably beat [WBA regular champion] Eimantas Stanionis, [WBC champion] Mario Barrios, [WBO champion] Brian Norman Jr.”

Anthony Joshua claims he can be bigger than Floyd Mayweather once he overcomes Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley | The Sun

The man let go by Joshua after just one fight thinks Mayweather could even win a belt at middleweight – but only if he’s matched up against the winner of Erislandy Lara’s WBA title defence against Danny Garcia, which takes place on September 14.

Garcia added: “Mayweather can’t fight a solid guy at 154 or 160.

“He could probably fight the winner of Danny Garcia and Erislandy Lara, he could fight them, and he could become champion, I think he could actually beat one of those.”

It seems highly unlikely we’ll ever see Mayweather end his retirement.

‘The Best Ever’ seems content making money boxing novices on a world tour.

Mayweather is also focused on finding the next American boxing star.

Eddie Hearn did not pull punches while discussing the highly anticipated bout between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, asserting that the former shouldn’t fight.

Eddie Hearn took a brutal dig at “idiots” who believe Mike Tyson should step back into the boxing ring. Addressing the 58-year-old’s highly-anticipated bout against Jake Paul, the Matchroom boxing promoter expressed little enthusiasm for the upcoming fight.

Paul vs Tyson has come under intense scrutiny since it was announced earlier this year, in large part due to the sizable 31-year age gap between the fighters. The long-awaited fight was initially slated to take place on July 20 in Arlington, Texas, but needed to be rescheduled to November 15 after the latter suffered an ulcer flare-up on a flight from Los Angeles to Miami back in May.

 Jake Paul and Mike Tyson

Despite now being several months removed from Tyson’s health scare, Hearn insisted that the legendary boxer should not be taking the inherent risks that come with facing off against Paul. “What, what, what on earth are we doing?” Hearn asked in disbelief while speaking to the Daily Mail. “I’m lucky enough to have a business where we don’t need to do that. And I will never do that.”

Hearn has dipped his toes into the world of “influencer boxing,” having promoted Paul’s brother, Logan, during his rematch fight versus YouTuber KSI in November of 2019. Though the bout was a resounding success – with each fighter taking home a guaranteed $900,000 just for showing up – the British promoter conceded that his “heart wasn’t really in it.”

With several exciting fights on the horizon, including Canelo Alvarez vs Edgar Berlanga, Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois and Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury II, Hearn said that he had no need to promote a boxer approaching 60 years of age – nor would he want to watch them fight.

Mike Tyson

“Anyone that thinks that [Tyson] should be in the ring right now either doesn’t have his best interests at heart or is an idiot,” he added. “Mike Tyson left the sport of boxing – which was, what, 20 years ago, I don’t know, something like that – he was shot to pieces. You honestly think that a fighter that was shot to pieces 20 years ago should now be coming back?

“I mean, I know he is only fighting Jake Paul, but it doesn’t matter. Jake Paul’s a powerful kid. He trains every day, he can punch. I get it, I get the business. I’m not criticizing them, but for me, no, thank you, not in a million years.”

Biles’ sister, Adria, explains her reasoning.

Given her high-profile nature from being a global gymnastics star, anything Simone Biles does is prone to become a trending topic. So it’s no surprise that her love life is constantly under a microscope. Thankfully for boyfriend Jonathan Owens, he’s a professional NFL player and knows what it means to be in the spotlight.

Simone Biles

The two met on a dating app in March of 2020, right before the COVID pandemic began, and they then started dating shortly after, leading to their engagement in February of 2022. Biles and Owens were seemingly in love from the get-go, but not everyone was super excited about their relationship.

Anthony Joshua is one fight away from becoming a three-time world heavyweight champion.

After losing his unified titles to Oleksandr Usyk and falling short again in the rematch, Joshua has now linked up with coach Ben Davison. He is on a good run of form, stopping Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou dominantly.

He now faces newly elevated IBF Champion Daniel Dubois on September 21. Although a win will set him up to face the winner of the Usyk and Tyson Fury rematch, there are plenty of top contenders waiting in the wings if he wants to keep busy.

One such fighter is Martin Bakole, who has long claimed to be the danger-man of the division but, until recently, didn’t have a standout performance on the big stage.

That changed when he destructively dismantled American Jared Anderson, tipped by many to be a future world champion, in five rounds. Bakole gained recognition from the US audience that night in Los Angeles and became known to UK fans for more than just his impressive sparring stories of dropping and stopping the best heavyweights.

He now deserves big fights only, and he has called out ‘AJ’ to face him in Africa à la Ali and Foreman’s Rumble in the Jungle. Should it take place, Bakole recently told BOXXER how it would go after previously claiming to have seriously hurt the Brit behind closed doors in the gym.

“Anthony Joshua – knockout, round four or five … This year I’m coming to knock them out. Stop them or punish them.”

There’s certainly an appetite for the fight, as there is to see Bakole in with any of the big names, but ‘AJ’ is firmly focused on Dubois and then, should he manage to avenge his loss to Usyk, Tyson Fury.

Teofimo Lopez seems to have struck up a good relationship with Canelo Alvarez. Recently, in a media interview ahead of the Edgar Berlanga fight on September 14, the Mexican boxing icon stated that Teofimo Lopez deserved a fight against Terence Crawford ahead of himself. “Crawford needs to fight Teofimo [Lopez] first and then we’ll see,” Alvarez remarked while Lopez and his father stood beside him.

And now, both boxers have been seen training with each other ahead of Canelo’s upcoming bout. The WBO super lightweight champion, who has defeated the likes of elite boxers like Vasyl Lomachenko and Josh Taylor, isn’t a bad choice at all for the 34-year-old fighter to engage in a light sparring session. And, it is also a good opportunity for Lopez to pick up a few tricks from one of the best practitioners of the ‘sweet science’.

Boxing: Canelo Alvarez shuts down Gervonta Davis as new face of boxing: "You need to do more" | Marca

In the training footage shared on X titled“Canelo and Teofimo Lopez in the ring,” Canelo seems to be teaching a few techniques to Lopez to deal with being pressured against the ropes. At first, Lopez threw three jabs. Thereafter, Lopez threw a cross and hook. The drill was then repeated multiple times, as both fighters executed it perfectly every time without faltering.

Notably, in 2022, Teofimo Lopez was thinking of adding Canelo’s trainer Eddy Reynoso to his coaching team alongside his father. “He is [a great coach]. I love the connection. I’ve talked to Canelo a few times. Yeah, we’ll see. My father, he’s always going to be my main coach, my #1, my guy. I’m always going to hold it down for him,” Lopez told ESnews. However, the talks died down and the linkup never materialized. Nevertheless, it seems Lopez’s relationship with Canelo has strengthened over the years to the point that ‘Cinnamon’ is throwing away a financially lucrative fight with Terence Crawford for Lopez.

Meanwhile, boxing fans made certain astute observations about the fighters’ physical stature and speculated about their upcoming fights. Safe to say, the community was happy witnessing Lopez throw hands with Canelo Alvarez.

I'm the FACE OF BOXING” — Gervonta Davis Tells Canelo Alvarez: Your time is UP - YouTube

Should Teofimo Lopez change his trainer?

One fan claimed that Canelo wasn’t as big as they anticipated. Thus, they have a newfound respect for Alvarez’s campaign in the super middleweight division, which has fighters who are much taller than him. The comment read, “Canelo real life small asl.  Same height as a lightweight lmao 😭😭 makes his 168 run even more impressive.” Canelo stands at 5 ft 7+1⁄2 inches while Lopez is 5 ft 8 inches. Remarkably, Lopez is actually a fraction taller than Canelo. However, both pugilists compete in weight classes that are miles apart.

Another fan claimed that Teofimo Lopez would level up tremendously in his boxing prowess if he had Canelo Alvarez as his stablemate. They commented, “That training with Canelo can turn Teo into a whole different beast.” For sure, Lopez can pick up on some slick head movement, and the left-hook-right uppercut combination from Canelo.
